Healing happens over time

More options—but the piercing can still change
Once fully healed, a piercing can often support a wider range of jewellery styles, materials and decorative choices. Even then, the jewellery still needs to fit and be comfortable for ongoing wear.
Healed piercings can also shrink rapidly when jewellery is removed. APP guidance notes that reinsertion can become difficult or impossible even after a piercing has been present for years.
Do not self-diagnose a problem from appearance alone
If a piercing becomes increasingly painful, very swollen, develops concerning discharge, the jewellery is embedding, or the fit has clearly changed, arrange professional review. Symptoms suggesting a medical problem need medical assessment rather than online diagnosis.
