What is threadless jewellery?

Threadless jewellery is also known as push-fit or press-fit jewellery. Instead of screwing together, the decorative end has a smooth pin that pushes into a hollow labret post.

The jewellery is held securely by gentle tension. A tiny bend in the pin helps the end grip inside the post, keeping the jewellery in place.

When adjusted correctly, the end should feel secure and sit flush against the post. It should never need to be forced.

How to insert the end into the post

Line the pin up with the hollow opening of the post.

Push the threadless end gently into the post until it sits flush.

You should feel light resistance from the bend in the pin. This tension is what keeps the jewellery secure.

Once fitted, gently check that the end does not slide out easily. Do not pull hard or force the jewellery.

Before changing your jewellery

Only change jewellery yourself if the piercing is fully healed and comfortable. If your piercing is fresh, irritated, swollen, sore, tight, bleeding, or difficult to access, please book a professional fitting rather than forcing jewellery in yourself.

How to bend a threadless pin

  • 01 — Insert the pin slightly

    Place the pin around one third of the way into the hollow post. This gives you control before making any adjustment.

  • 02 — Add a gentle bend

    Gently bend the pin very slightly to one side. A small bend is usually enough to create tension.

  • 03 — Test the fit

    Push the end fully into the post. It should feel secure, with a little resistance as it slides in.

  • 04 — Adjust if needed

    it feels loose, add the tiniest extra bend and test again. If it will not go in, the bend may be too strong.

How to use a guide pin or threadless taper

  • 01 — Choose the correct size

    Make sure your guide pin or taper matches the gauge of your jewellery post.

  • 02 — Insert the guide pin

    Gently guide the taper through the healed piercing channel. Move slowly and do not force it.

  • 03 — Connect the post

    Attach or line up the hollow post with the guide pin so the post can follow it through the piercing.

  • 04 — Guide the post through

    Carefully move the guide pin back through the piercing, allowing the post to follow into place.

  • 05 — Remove the guide pin

    Once the post is sitting correctly, remove the guide pin or taper.

  • 06 — Add the decorative end

    Insert your threadless end into the hollow post until it sits flush and feels secure.

Common fit issues

  • My jewellery feels loose

    Remove the end and add the smallest extra bend to the pin. Test again before bending further.

  • My jewellery feels too tight

    The pin may be over-bent or not lined up correctly. Do not force it.

  • The end will not go into the post

    Reduce the bend slightly and check that the pin is lined up with the hollow post.

  • I cannot get the post through

    Use a guide pin only on healed piercings. If it feels sore, tight or resistant, book a professional fitting.
